TUCSON CLASSICS CAR SHOW – VOLUNTEER FAQ’s

  1. About TCCS: The show is Saturday October 21st from 10:00am to 4:00pm at The Gregory School on Craycroft Rd., just north of Glenn. This is the 16th annual show.  Vehicle owners from the Tucson area, our state and surrounding states display over 400 classic cars and trucks for a fun family event.  A food court, vendors, entertainment and children’s activities on the beautiful grass field surrounded by mesquite trees enhance the attendee’s experience. Our first 16 Tucson Classics Car Shows have generated over $2.4 million dollars for local community charities. We are all volunteers.  There are no labor costs.
  2. TCCS Volunteers: There are three days of volunteer opportunities – All day Friday and Saturday, and Sunday morning. On day of show, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your assigned shift to check in and find your assignment, allowing an additional 15 minutes if you take the shuttle bus (runs every 15 minutes) from Tucson Medical Center (TMC). Volunteer check-in on Friday and Sunday is at the Food Court and Saturday it is located under the trees near the Craycroft Rd. entrance of The Gregory School – across the driveway from admissions (main entrance to field of cars).  If possible, please work more than one shift – especially in the afternoon when we tend to run short on volunteers.  If you find that your work shift is over-staffed, speak with the person in charge of that area to see if you might be more needed in another area.  Please do not leave your work station without first checking with the person in charge. If you cannot find the person in charge, text Marcy Euler 520.603.9382
  3. Where do volunteers park? Before 8:30, you may park in the Castle Hill School parking lot, just north of the school entry off Craycroft.  After 8:30, please park at the TMC parking lot on Glenn (at Wyatt). Shuttle buses will start transporting at 8:45 to and from the show site, running every 15 minutes. Volunteers Friday and Sunday, park on campus.  Dropped-off Volunteers use the Castle Hill parking lot north of school entry.
  4. Where do show visitors park? Parking is $7.00 per car on The Gregory School property and the field across the street.  Free parking and shuttle (every 15 minutes) to and from the show is available at the TMC parking lot on Glenn (at Wyatt). Those taking the shuttle bus can purchase admission tickets on the bus. Those parking on The Gregory School property will purchase admission tickets when they pay for their parking. Those parking in the east parking lot will pay for parking, then purchase tickets at our Admissions tent.  Handicap and VIP parking is all on The Gregory School property; handicap placard/license plate or VIP pass required.  Uber & Lyft drop off will be in the Castle Hill parking lot just north of The Gregory School entrance,
  5. Emergency help: Please do not call 911. Instead, go to the First Aid booth next to the Command Center RV in the first parking bay across from Admissions or find a Rotarian (in a blue shirt with gold  Rotary logo) with a radio or golf cart.  A doctor will be on hand at all times to render aid or call an ambulance if deemed necessary.

Additional important information:

  1. See the Tucson Classics Car Show Facebook page or call 520.440.4503 for any updates on the show, especially if it rains (in 2015 the show went on despite the rain). We will be live streaming on Facebook throughout the show.  You can hear DJ John broadcast on site by tuning into radio channel FM 106.9.
  2. Water and ice are provided free for our volunteer workers.  Sorry, no free food will be provided. Classics club can only be entered with a $50 ticket.  You may bring your own, or purchase food and sodas in the Food Court and at beverage stations.  You may bring your own cooler (with food and non-alcoholic beverages).  Make sure you drink plenty of water – stay hydrated.  Wear sunscreen, a hat, comfortable shoes, and a Rotary shirt if you are a Rotarian.
  3. Some breakfast items will be for sale on Saturday, beginning at 6:30am in the Food Court.
  4. No bicycles or animals (except for service animals) are allowed on the field.  People bringing their bikes or animals should be stopped at Admissions, but if they get past, ask a Rotarian to talk to them.
  5. Show T-shirts and other items are sold in our T-shirt Booth near the northwest area of the show field. Our charity, JTED, will have a booth near the northwest corner of the field by the T-Shirt booth.
  6. The VIP Classics Club is located in the SW corner of the show field.  To enter you must purchase a $50 ticket which includes 1 adult entry to the show, VIP parking ticket, catered buffet lunch, beer, wine, soda, water, shaded seating with cooled air, TV lounge, an additional raffle and separate restrooms.
  7. The Raffle & Admission Ticket: The $10.00 raffle ticket is also an admission ticket. Children under 18 are free with a paid adult. Children are not eligible to enter the raffle.  Additional tickets may be purchased at show Admissions, at the raffle car or at our T-Shirt booth.  Deadline to purchase is 3:15pm. Deadline to deposit stubs is 3:30pm.
  8. Raffle: You do not need to be present to win. We will call the Grand Prize winner around 4:00pm from the show stage on October 15th, so ticket buyers should keep their phones handy!  If the show is cancelled for any reason, the drawing will be held in a public venue within 30 days of the show date.
    * The Grand Prize this year is a beautiful, 2016 C-7 Corvette Convertible Z-51.  The winner may choose the Corvette or $40,000 cash.  If the winner opts for the $40,000 cash, we sell the car and get another one for the next year. We buy a different raffle car every year.
    * The odds to win? We sell around 30,000 tickets prior to the show.  We will award 5 prizes, so the odds of a single ticket purchase winning a prize are 5/30,000 or 1 in 6,000…far better than the odds in most lotteries.  When you consider that the ticket is also an admission ticket to the best car show in Southern Arizona, and that the proceeds go to local charities, there isn’t a better value anywhere!
    * The secondary prizes are:
    – $3,000 shopping spree at Tucson’s Sam Levitz Furniture, Ashley Home store, Sam’s Outlet or The    Gallery
    – $2,000 in new appliances or furniture from Tucson Appliance and Furniture Company
    – $1,000 toward a new set of Cooper Tires from Jack Furrier Tire and Auto Care
    – $500 toward ink and toner from Cartridge World
    – $400 toward a new Apple Watch from Wit2 Consulting
    – $400 toward a new Bicycle from Fair Wheel Bikes
  9. Where does the money go? All proceeds will be granted to these three amazing programs in our community focused on pathways out of poverty and a brighter future.
Pima Community College Foundation and Pima Community College
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Arizona
OPCS ( Old Pueblo Community Services)
  10. The Rotary Club of Tucson is a service organization of approximately 250 members founded in 1921. We meet on Wednesdays at noon at the Tucson Convention Center.
  11. How do you become a Rotarian? Interested persons must be sponsored by a Rotarian. Talk to a Rotary Club of Tucson member (blue logo shirt) or visit the Information Booth at the stage.

Please be friendly and helpful to all our attendees and entrants.  If you receive a question you cannot answer, look for a Rotarian (blue shirt with gold Rotary logo) to help. Large site maps showing the overall layout with location of toilets, Food Court, T-Shirt Booth, etc. will be at Admissions and around the site as well as cross references to locate vendors and class/row locations.  Become familiar with the locations of these maps so that you can direct the public to them and so that you can learn as well.  Toilets, Food Court, and Beverage sales locations are the most frequently sought.  There will also be a Rotary Information table set up at the stage for questions and directions.

Have fun and enjoy the day!
